25 days after his last game, Novak Djokovic has returned to the ATP Tour with victory, and with a quite overwhelming. With partials of 6-2, 6-3, the Serbian defeated Hungarian Marton Fucsoovics to advance to the quarterfinals of the Gonet Geneva Open, an ATP 250 on clay in Swiss territory.

No. 6 of the PIF ATP Rankings was a machine towards its first victory of the season over clay. In addition to offering Break Points to the serve, he broke three times. Without counting that he connected more winning shots than his rival (22 against eleven) and made fewer uninforced errors (15 against 23).

“It is my first victory this season on whipped land,” said Djokovic, now with 1-2 record on this surface in 2025. “It’s great to break the ice in some way. It is a very demanding surface. We all know how complicated it is to play on beaten land; compared to other surfaces, you always have to wait for an extra ball, an extra blow.”

“Here there is a little more height. So it helps to have a good serve. Today I think that was my strongest blow. I had a high percentage of first services (73% and won 80% of them) and many free points with this shot when I needed it to get out of trouble. I think that makes life a little on the track. I am very happy to have been able to play the best tennis when it was necessary.”

“Throughout the game, I was quite concentrated and satisfied with the tennis level, so I hope I can continue tomorrow.”

Another blow of the Serbian that was the protagonist was his reverse. While he made more unin -forced mistakes on that side than with the right (10 against four), he also connected more reverse winning shots (nine against eight). In addition, each set closed with a parallel setback winner.

After his triumph in an hour and 17 minutes, the second serial head in Geneva will have rematch in the quarterfinals. He will measure Matteo Arnaldi, his executioner 25 days ago at the Mutua Madrid Open and in runs.

The Italian, who comes from beating Hungarian Fabian Marozsan by 6-3, 7-6 (3), will seek to leave his lexus atp headtohead in 2-0 with Djokovic.
