Novak Djokovic claimed a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ioannis Xilas on Saturday to give Serbia a 2-0 lead over Greece in the Davis Cup.
The Balkan player, who won the Davis Cup with Serbia in 2010, displayed a high level of play to win the match in just 45 minutes.
The No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings is trying to help Serbia win its World Group I tie to advance to next year’s Davis Cup qualifying. In the first point of the tie, Miomir Kecmanovic gave Serbia a 1-0 lead after beating Aristotelis Thanos 6-3, 6-3.
Djokovic is playing his first match since being beaten by Alexei Popyrin in the third round of the US Open. The Serbian is looking to regain form in the final two months of the season, chasing a spot at the Nitto ATP Finals in November. The seven-time champion of the year-end finale is currently ranked No. 9 in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.
