Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi have been named Coaches of the Year at the 2023 ATP Awards for their incredible work with Italian Jannik Sinner.
In 2023, the 22-year-old Italian captured his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto, reached the final at the Nitto ATP Finals and became the first player from his country to finish a season in the Top 5 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
The world No. 4, who finished the year with a 64-15 record, also reached the Wimbledon semi-finals under the tutelage of Cahill and Vagnozzi. Sinner won four titles in 2023 and received the Fan Favorite awards at the start of the week.

Vagnozzi has been working with Sinner since February 2022, but has known his potential for much longer.
“I have known Jannik since I was 14 years old. He played against one of my junior players, so he saw it for the first time there,” Vagnozzi told ATPTour.com at the beginning of this year. “It is very nice to train him because he is a very good boy. He has a very good character. It is easy to coach Jannik too because he wants to improve a lot and always go out on the court with a smile, so for a coach he is very good.”
Cahill, who trained former world No. 1s Andre Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt, joined Sinner’s team in June 2022. The Australian has focused on developing the Italian’s mentality.
“My role is more about experience and how to help him mentally in the big moments, and making sure that we’re working on the right things that, in the end, are going to put him where he wants to be,” Cahill said at the beginning of the year.
Sinner has also been nominated for the Most Improved of the Year and the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Awards.
