Pablo Carreño Busta smiles and celebrates non-stop. For the Spaniard, his debut at the Omnium Banque National presented by Rogers is much more than just a match, and one more victory.

One of the four former champions in the draw, the Spaniard won by a hard-fought 6-7 (8), 7-6 (6) and 6-3 against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan and achieved this Tuesday his first victory on the circuit since he defeated the Argentine Cachin in R1 of the Australian Open 2023, after 15 months away from the ATP circuit due to an elbow injury.

The comeback was such that he came from behind and turned around a 2-5 deficit in the second set and saved two match points in the tiebreak of the second set before stretching out the definition, and then scoring the victory in three sets, after two hours and 37 minutes of play.

Carreno Busta had returned to the circuit at Roland Garros in May, racking up just one win in four tournaments so far in his comeback. He has also missed much of the 2023 season due to injuries. The Spaniard, who won the title here in 2022, is currently ranked No. 799 in the world in the PIF ATP Rankings but has made it clear that he wants to get back to the top.

In the meantime, Carreño also achieved his 150th career victory on hard court (150-112). The 33-year-old born in Gijón will next face Dane Holger Rune, who also had to fight to beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Meanwhile, at the end of the day, Chilean Alejandro Tabilo returned to the circuit with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over American Frances Tiafoe, to demonstrate his full potential on the Tour.

Tabilo has 12 wins in ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, eight during the current season, after overcoming his respective debuts in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, and reaching the semi-finals in Rome.

The 27-year-old left-hander hit 30 winners to take the victory in just 92 minutes. Born in Toronto, Tabilo will face Italian Lorenzo Sonego, who defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 7-6 (7), 5-7 and 6-4.
