Carlos Alcaraz finished the week to pure smiles in the internali bnl d’Italia in Rome, where he continues to shoot and signed a worked 7-6 victory (2), 6-2 against Laslo Djere to move to R4 in the tournament for the first time in his career.

The Spanish was lost the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of Madrid last month due to an adductor injury and, after its premiere against Dusan Lajovic, he once again showed that he wants to continue shining this week and made it clear in the Central Field: competing in a good way and going from less to more, with his usual tenistic repertoire of talent, power and touch, to advance after an hour and 43 minutes of play.

Alcaraz, who turned 22 on Monday, began somewhat irregular and traced a 1-3 in a disputed first set that was defined in a tiebreak in which his winning shots appeared. After that first set, the Serbian had to receive medical attention on the court for a discomfort in the right elbow and his sharp shots quickly stopped being an opposition to Alcaraz.

“He started very firm and it was difficult for me to find the rhythm and how to be able to bother him. But in the end I could do well, I tried to be better and I could take advantage of it,” he said. “Winning in runs is important to save energy because the week gets harder and more,” he said.

Thus, No. 3 of the PIF ATP Rankings ended with fifteen winning shots according to Infosys ATP Stats and could accelerate to close the victory and stretch its brand to 23-2 in whipped land since May last year, including the titles in Roland Garros and the ATP Masters 1000 of Montecarlo, in addition to being the player with the most victories in the ATP Tour this season (26).

At the moment, in just his second appearance in Rome, Alcaraz this week tries another capital achievement: Complete the quarter-final set in the nine ATP Masters 1000 events. Alcaraz’s next challenge will be against Karen Khachanov, who eliminated this Sunday the Italian Francesco Passaro 6-3 and 6-0. The Spanish leads the lexus ATP Head2head 4-0.

Did you know what …?
Alcaraz improved his 30-2 brand against players outside the Top 30 on beaten land since the beginning of 2023, only with losses against No. 117 Monteiro in R1 of Rio 2024 when he had to retire due to injury, and the surprising fall against No. 135 Marozsan in R3 of Rome two years ago.
