For the first time in his career, Carlos Alcaraz won two victories in El Internalzionali Bnl d’Italia of Rome, thus reaching the round of 16 at the ATP Masters 1000 that is celebrated in the Italic forum. After overcoming Laslo Djere in two sets, No. 3 of the PIF ATP Rankings will be measured next Tuesday to Karen Khachanov.
“It has been a complicated game,” said Alcaraz. “He was playing very well, very solid. It has been hard for me to find holes at first, but I knew I had to be there, with the right attitude and keep fighting waiting for my opportunities.”
“I am very happy to have been able to get that first set so difficult in the tiebreaker,” Alcaraz added, who achieved a break when Djere took out the first set and then took that first manga in the tiebreaker. “And then in the second I think he has come a little down, making some mistakes that have made that partial come a little towards my land.”
Alcaraz, who comes from not playing the Mutua Madrid Open for an injury in the adductor of his right leg, valued very positively the fact of being able to advance without wear, without giving up sets along the path that could endanger his physical condition after returning from an injury, as is his case.
“I appreciate this victory in two sets to save energy for what is coming,” said the champion of four Grand Slam titles. “Physically I feel good, prepared for the next round,” the Spanish followed. “I am trying to return from the injury the best I can. Sometimes it is difficult to stay concentrated, but today I have tried at all times.”
