Carlos Alcaraz is already training at Flushing Meadows. The Spaniard, currently No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings, landed in New York on Monday from Cincinnati, where he lost his debut to Gael Monfils. Before getting down to business, however, the four-time Grand Slam champion had time to unwind a bit, playing golf with Casper Ruud (with whom he played the US Open final in 2022).

On Wednesday, Alcaraz appeared on the Arthur Ashe court to do his first training session in preparation for his debut in the last major of the year, sharing the court with Grigor Dimitrov in his first contact with the tournament.

The Spaniard, who won the US Open in 2022, which also allowed him to become the youngest No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings in history, arrives in the Big Apple after a spectacular summer, in which he won two Grand Slam titles (Roland Garros and Wimbledon) and in which he won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the grand final.

At 21, Alcaraz is only one step away from completing the Grand Slam at the Australian Open. Although he will have to wait until next year (the tournament will be held from January 12 to 26, 2025), the Murcia native now has the opportunity to add his second trophy at the US Open, repeating his title in a very special place in his career and increasing the spoils of an unrepeatable 2024.

Alcaraz, who will learn the draw for the tournament on Thursday and will face the media on Saturday, will make his US Open debut on Monday or Tuesday, depending on the draw. As the No. 3 seed in the draw, Alcaraz already knows he could face Jannik Sinner or Djokovic in the semifinals, but that is still a long way off.

First of all, the first training session against Dimitrov, a good warm-up, and still work to do for one of the big candidates for the trophy in New York, the city that never sleeps.
