Today is not an ordinary day in Carlos Alcaraz’s career. This Friday at the Internali Bnl d’Italia again written a new chapter of history in his young professional career, achieving the ticket to the final of Rome, the last of the three ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in which he lacked the game for the title.

Serial head No. 3, recent champion in Montecarlo and twice winner in Madrid, had never come as far in the Italic forum as in this edition. And in the semifinals he took another step, surpassing the local favorite Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6 (4), to win a ticket in the final of next Sunday.

“I am very happy,” Alcaraz said after the game. “Rome was a tournament that had not come many times, where I simply had a victory before coming here this year and the truth is super special.”

“The tournament is wonderful, it is very nice. I think the Italians are very passionate, it is appreciated to play in front of them. I am very happy to give me the opportunity to live a Sunday here in Rome, to play a final here in Rome, let’s see how such,” added the Spanish. “We will be prepared, but above all we will enjoy this day, since it is a very beautiful moment and we have a day of rest, we will try to enjoy it with my people.”

Alcaraz became, in this way, the fourth active player that manages to appear in the last round of the three ATP Masters 1000 on brick dust that houses the ATP Tour Calendar: Montecarlo, Madrid and Rome. Before him, Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka and Stefanos Tsitsipas had already signed such a feat.

In addition, the Murcia claimed to leave the Italian capital as the player born in the 2000s with more finals played in a tournament in this category, ahead of Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune.

*This Friday plays the second semifinal in Rome

The Centraloe Campo gathered in the first male semifinal two players who had seen the faces just a month ago in the Montecarlo final. The Lexus ATP Head2head dictated the superiority of Spanish in rivalry (4-1 before Friday), but before the great moment of Italian the statistic was not guarantee of anything.

And so Juan Carlos Ferrero wanted to remember his pupil seconds prior to executing the first rest of the match. “Presence, presence of departure,” asked Alcaraz, who did not hesitate to pay his coach to take advantage of the first breakdown opportunity he had.

“He is tense too, get hard. Get big,” Ferrero continued to indicate. Alcaraz maintained the ribbon of aggressiveness, knowing how to adapt to the wind conditions that conditioned the afternoon in Rome. So much so that in each game at the service of his rival he managed to manufacture a break option. And thus the double break in his favor in just 30 minutes (4-1).

Although Musetti linked two consecutive games, it was a mirage (4-3), because Spanish did not step back. He raised up to 11 the break opportunities in the first manga to transform a total of three, according to the Infos ATP statistics. Thus he could close his advantage 6-3.

But the Italian refused to surrender so fast. He gradually solved his problems with the service and returned the currency to Spanish to the rest. Three breaks were counted at the beginning of the second set until Musetti secured a game with his serve to place 3-1.

The third favorite had to fashed his belt and return to work in the shade. This also demanded his bench. And if something has demonstrated in this edition of Rome, it is not necessary to give it by sentence. He was rescuing point to point until, once again, 4-4. The Spaniard added his fifth break and although he had a game point to the rest with 6-5, he had to decide the victory in the Tie-Break after two hours and two minutes.

Alcaraz, who is the player with the most games won in 2025 with a total of 29, looks a 14-1 record on whipped land (he has lost his only duel in the Barcelona final vs Rune). This Friday he appeared in the last round of a tournament for the 25th occasion in his career and already has more ATP Tour finals than anyone in 2025 (4).

In Rome he will try to add a more title in front of the winner of the second semifinal that tonight brings together No. 1 of the world Jannik Sinner and to the standard head No. 11 Tommy Paul.

Did you know what …?

Carlos Alcaraz has a 11-0 record against Italian rivals since the beginning of the 2024 season. Since then he has defeated Jannik Sinner (3), Lorenzo Musetti (3), Andrea Vavassori (2), Luca Nardi (1), Lorenzo Sonego (1) and Matteo Arnaldi (1).
