Any team can still finish first in Group F of the United Cup.

And Katie Boulter and Charles Broom beat María Lourdes Carle and Tomas Martin Etcheverry this Monday in Sydney by 7-6(4), 7-5 in one hour and 45 minutes to give Great Britain the tie against Argentina by 2- 1.

However, both the British, Argentinian and Australian – the three countries that make up Group F – have a chance of being in the quarterfinals of this mixed team tournament.

“I am very, very happy today. Last year I played very well in singles and I didn’t get any victory in doubles, so I really wanted it to happen,” said Boulter after scoring the decisive point. “I am very happy that it arrived. I think we both play very well together, considering it’s our first time. But I am excited to have achieved the victory.”

Boulter had opened the tie with a great performance against Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 6-3 and returned to the Ken Rosewall Arena to play alongside Broom in the decisive point of the series. Great Britain will now face Australia this Wednesday in the afternoon session in search of closing its ticket to the quarterfinals.

“There were nerves, but I felt like playing with Katie, she has experience,” Broom noted. “He helped me get through it. I think we get along very well together on the court, with good energy and the public was great also helping us in hard moments, so that relaxes you. I’m looking forward to the next tie against Australia.”

Before, Tomás Martín Etcheverry forced the mixed doubles against the British with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2 victory against Billy Harris.

“I’m very happy. I received support from Argentina. I feel at home with all the people here,” said Etcheverry. “It was a difficult match for me. I had a stomach problem in the middle of the second set and then I did my best and got the win, so I’m very happy. And now the mixed doubles, let’s see if we get the win,” he said. the Argentine who came back from a set down and won in two hours and 44 minutes.

Etcheverry was coming off a season-opening loss to local favorite Alex de Minaur. After losing a grueling first set, the 25-year-old may have let his slow start to the season affect his performance. But instead, the No. 39 in the PIF ATP Rankings recovered to mark his superiority against Harris, with a noisy contingent of Argentine fans.

And in the first match of the series, Katie Boulter beat Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 6-3 in Great Britain’s first match at the United Cup 2025, and made it 1-0 in Group F of the competition that takes place this Monday in Sydney.

At the Ken Rosewall Arena, Boulter, world No. 24, took one hour and 26 minutes to defeat Podoroska, in the first meeting between the two. British No. 1 Boulter has just finished her first season in the top 50, after winning two WTA titles in 2024.

Boulter hit nine forehand winners and converted three of her nine break points in Monday’s first set, which ended with a Podoroska double fault. Podoroska, a Roland Garros semi-finalist in 2020, tried to regroup in the second set, but Boulter fought for 12 minutes to make it 3-0 and relaxed from there.
