Bautista Agut opens a new season against a familiar face in Adelaide

Roberto Bautista Agut will have a very tough first main draw on the ATP Tour 2025. The Spaniard will make his season debut against his compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Adelaide International, one of the two ATP 250 events prior to the Australian Open.

The No. 51 in the PIF ATP Rankings leads the Lexus ATP HeadToHead 2-1 with ‘Foki’, who enters this duel with a 0-1 record on the year after his time in Hong Kong (l. to Munar). This advantage has been maintained precisely since they met in Adelaide two years ago, when the more experienced prevailed in straight sets on the way to the semifinals.

This match will mark Bautista Agut’s 16th season playing at least one ATP Tour main draw per year (15 consecutively). And if he wins it against the current world No. 61, he will become a rival in the second round of the American Sebastian Korda, the second seed in the tournament.

On the same side of the draw is Tomás Etcheverry, who has just posted a 1-1 record in singles in the United Cup. The Argentine, eighth seeded in Adelaide and No. 39 in the world, will debut against the Australian Tristan Schoolkate, No. 168 on the ladder.

In addition, the Spanish Jaume Munar, with a great performance this week in Hong Kong (he plays the semifinals on Saturday), will start against the Belgian David Goffin, who leads the Lexus ATP HeadToHead 1-0 between them after prevailing in three sets last year in Winston -Salem.

Another interesting first round duel to follow in Adelaide will be the one between the Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov. At 3-3 is the Lexus ATP HeadToHead between them.
