The first serial heads, runners-up in the last edition, saved a championship point before overcoming the French Sadio Doumbia/Fabien Reboul 6-4, 6-7 (6), 13-11. After conquering Indian Wells and Miami this year, Arévalo and Pavic holds a balance of 29-7 in the season, according to the Infosys ATP Victorias/Defeas index.

“It means a lot, I’m very excited,” said Arévalo. “I love this tournament. From the first time I played here, I feel a connection with the city. It makes me happy to have won this game, because it was a real battle. I could have fallen to any side. Mate and I kept together, even when saving a game point. It was the key to turning the situation and winning the title.”

Arévalo and Pavic deployed a brave tennis in the decisive game, coming to save a championship point with 9/10 in the Match Tie-BREAK before placing the 4-1 in the Lexus ATP Head2head before the French couple. In addition, they expanded distances such as Dupla No. 1 in the PIF ATP Double Team Rankings. Now they maintain an advantage of 760 points over the second place occupied by Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten.

“I think it is pure trust,” Pavic said about his ability to solve equal situations. “We have been winning many games, we have already raised Masters 1000 titles, one feels that confidence. I think we have that advantage over any other couple.”

The triumph also served to highlight both players among the maximum elite of the locker room. Pavic (42) and Arévalo (40) are the most laureate doubles players among active tennis players. Next week they will go to the ATP 250 of Geneva before facing the defense of the throne in Roland Garros.

“It is very special to have my whole family here,” said Arévalo. “My parents are here, my two children, my wife, my coach and also Mate’s family. It has been very special.”
