Alex de Minaur is enjoying the best season of his career and could improve it further at Wimbledon.
When Lucas Pouille pulled out of his third-round match against the Australian on Saturday with an abdominal injury, it put De Minaur in prime position to break barriers in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
De Minaur, currently ranked No. 9, will climb to No. 6 in the rankings if he can overcome his fourth-round match against Arthur Fils. That would put him in position to rise to a career-high position in the PIF ATP Rankings (currently No. 7) on July 15 if he can hold on to that spot.
In the live standings, No. 6 Hubert Hurkacz, No. 7 Andrey Rublev and No. 8 Casper Ruud are no longer in the Wimbledon draw after bowing out before the third round, clearing the way for De Minaur.
Only six Australians in the history of the PIF ATP Rankings (since 1973) have reached a ranking higher than No. 6: Lleyton Hewitt (No. 1), John Newcombe (No. 1), Patrick Rafter (No. 1), Ken Rosewall (No. 2), Rod Laver (No. 3) and Pat Cash (No. 4).

De Miñaur is also sixth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, which would give him access to the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.
The 25-year-old has moved up one spot so far in this tournament, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas — now seventh — by losing in the second round to Emil Ruusuvuori.
The Nitto ATP Finals will take place from November 10-17 at the Inalpi Arena in Turin.
