Alejandro Tabilo and Frances Tiafoe are the two latest additions announced on Monday to represent Team World at the seventh edition of the Laver Cup, which will take place at the Uber Arena in Berlin from 20 to 22 September 2024.

The No. 22 and No. 20 PIF ATP Rankings players rounded out the Team World lineup, which also includes No. 10 Alex de Minaur, No. 12 Taylor Fritz, No. 13 Ben Shelton and No. 14 Tommy Paul, all under captain John McEnroe.

The Chilean will make his debut in the competition in a season in which he has opened his ATP Tour record. He did so last January in Auckland, where he only dropped one set in six matches to become the first Chilean to win a title on hard court since Fernando González in 2007.

Tabilo also produced one of the crowning achievements of his career, upsetting world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets on the clay of the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome on his way to his first semi-final at this level. He was eventually cut short by the man who would go on to become champion, Alexander Zverev.

Later in July, the Chilean entered the Top 20 for the first time, after claiming his first crown on grass in Mallorca.

“Tabilo has proven he is capable of beating the world’s best players on all surfaces this year. He should bring fresh energy to what is an experienced and successful group,” said captain McEnroe.

Tiafoe, meanwhile, is one of the team’s veterans and has made his mark at the highest level at the Laver Cup. On an individual level, at the 2022 US Open he reached the semi-finals after beating four-time champion Rafael Nadal, becoming the first American to do so since Andy Roddick in 2006.

But it was at London 2022 that he made history, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and securing the first Laver Cup title for Team World. He also had the famous doubles win alongside Jack Sock, in Roger Federer’s last professional match that he played alongside Nadal. This will be Tiafoe’s fifth appearance in the competition, a record he shares with Zverev.

“I’m delighted to have Frances back on the team in Berlin,” McEnroe said. “He has shown that he can compete with the best players in the world. His power and speed make him a threat in singles and doubles, giving us plenty of options. He has a great personality and brings a great atmosphere whether he’s on the court or on the bench.”

Finally, Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg can boast a strong squad, with Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas confirmed alongside 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, Roland Garros and Wimbledon 2024 winner Carlos Alcaraz, plus Roland Garros finalist Zverev and former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev.

Team Europe won the first four editions of the Laver Cup in Prague (2017), Chicago (2018), Geneva (2019) and Boston (2021). Team World is chasing its third consecutive crown, having won in London (2022) and Vancouver (2023).
