Before the start of this grass-court tour, Alejandro Tabilo had only won one match on this surface in his entire career. This Wednesday, the Chilean recorded his fifth consecutive victory on grass.
He did it on Court 12 of the All England Club in the resumption of his match against Daniel Evans – which was suspended due to lack of light this Tuesday with the score at 6-2, 3-3 – and which he ended up closing out by 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.
The Chilean, who this week holds a career-high position in the PIF ATP Rankings at World No. 19, arrived in the English capital as the recent winner of last week’s Mallorca Championships presented by waterdrop. He became the first player from his country to win an ATP Tour tournament on the surface.
The four wins he needed to claim the second title of the season – and of his professional career – in addition to the one he won in the first round at Queen’s and this Wednesday at Wimbledon, have allowed him to turn around his record of victories and defeats on grass (7-5).
Tabilo had only won one match on the surface. It went back to Wimbledon 2022, when he was able to defeat Laslo Djere in the first round. This time, he has managed to equal at least his best result at SW19.
To try to prolong his state of grace in the British Grand Slam, he will have to overcome the Italian Flavio Cobolli in the second round, who managed to get rid of the Australian Rinky Hijikata in his debut by 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Alejandro Tabilo achieved his 50th career win and 25th of the season at Wimbledon on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Chilean has a 50-40 match record in his professional career on the ATP Tour.
