Carlos Alcaraz and Gael Monfils were playing the second set tie-break on Thursday when their second round match at the Cincinnati Open was suspended due to rain. The bad weather ended up causing the match to be cancelled.

The Spaniard led 6-4, 6-6(1/3). Play will resume on Friday at 12:30 p.m. local time, and the winner will return to the court hours later (from 3:00 p.m. local time). See the full schedule.

Last year’s finalist (l. to Djokovic) is playing his first hard-court tournament since March in Miami. Minutes before the suspension he saved a set point on serve at 5-6 to force a tie-break.

The second seed has also saved all five break points he has faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats. He is down a mini-break in the tie-break. Monfils will serve out the second set.

The winner of the Alcaraz-Monfils tie will face 15th seed Holger Rune in the round of 16. The 21-year-old Alcaraz, ranked No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings, leads Monfils 2-0 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

Seventh seed Casper Ruud of Norway and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime were scheduled to play on Thursday. Due to rain, they will start their match on Friday. The winner will face British player Jack Draper at 19:00 local time.
