Carlos Alcaraz moved up to second place in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin on Monday after reaching the semi-finals of the China Open. How far is the Spanish from first place?

Jannik Sinner still leads Alcaraz by 2,990 points in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, which serves to determine the year-end No. 1, an honor presented by PIF. The Italian is in a very good position to become the first Italian to achieve this milestone.

Alcaraz is well placed to finish in the Top 2 at the end of the year for the third consecutive season. Two years ago, at the age of 19, he achieved No. 1 at the end of the year. Last season, he finished at No. 2.

Alcaraz’s hopes of finishing the season at No. 1 have not been completely dashed either, with plenty of points still up for grabs over the next month and a half. But to put the pressure on Sinner, Alcaraz must continue winning, starting with his Beijing semifinal against Daniil Medvedev.

Sinner, Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev have qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals, which will be played from November 10 to 17 in Turin. Next on the list to qualify is Medvedev, who is fourth in the Live Race.

Medvedev is trying to earn his spot in the season-ending tournament for the sixth consecutive season. The 2020 Nitto ATP Finals champion knows it won’t be easy to defeat Alcaraz on Tuesday.

“It will be a difficult test against Carlos,” Medvedev said. “When he is inspired, he is probably the best player in the world. It’s difficult to play against him. And I feel like he’s inspired now. So it’s a big test for me.”

Medvedev has a 730-point lead over fifth-placed Taylor Fritz in the Live Race. If he wins the Chinese ATP 500 title, he would increase his lead over the American to 1,030 points.

Top-ranked Sinner will face local favorite Buyunchaokete in the other semi-final in Beijing.

Seventh-placed Andrey Rublev had a great opportunity to move up to fifth place in the Live Race if he won the title in Beijing. However, they fell to Buyunchaokete on Monday night in the quarterfinals.
