Playing at home, in one’s country, is something that does not happen so often (if it happens to them) for the majority of tennis players on the Tour. And Roberto Carballés and Jaume Munar were able to advance this Tuesday in the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

First it was the turn of Carballés, who opened the day on center court and did so with a solid performance against the lucky loser Hugo Grenier 6-2 and 6-4. Finalist in Marrakech two weeks ago, Carballes showed that he arrives in good shape and with confidence is a rival that no one wants on the other side of the net.

“I started at a good pace, he failed a little more but then he raised the level in the second, so I am happy to have managed to close the match in two sets,” analyzed Carballés. “I have been able to prepare well for the tournament, I arrived on Thursday afternoon and I feel fine,” he said.

Carballés’ next challenge will be the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who has just reached the round of 16 in Monte Carlo, a round in which he was eliminated by Novak Djokovic. “He is a complicated opponent, I have never played against him although I know that on dirt he gets the best results from him. I feel very well, without pain, without injuries and playing at a good level so I am looking forward to the game,” he said.

For his part, Munar followed the path of Carballés and beat Yoshihito Nishioka with a solid 6-3 and 6-1, in just one hour and twenty of the match. “Playing at home always has a positive part and another part of nerves, today I managed it well. The beginning of the game was not what I expected but then I managed to make the necessary adjustments and above all, I was stable, which I believe which has been key to achieving victory”; Munar explained.

“I like to play on the big courts, not only because of the crowd, which is also because here I feel the absolute support of the fans, but also because of the spaces, because of how I move and how comfortable I feel, something that is demonstrated also with the results,” he said.

In the second round he will face the Australian Jordan Thompson. “It will be a complicated game, he is playing one of the best seasons of his career,” said the Spaniard.
Meanwhile, the Argentine Facundo Díaz Acosta entered the round of 16 after beating the Croatian Borna Coric 6-2 and 7-5, while his compatriot Diego Schwartzman could not maintain his level after passing the qualifying round and fell 6-1 and 6-2 against Dusan Lajovic in just 66 minutes.
