In addition to reaching his first final in the Internali Bnl d’Italia in Rome, which will play this Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz got an impressive brand: in his number 100 in ATP Masters 1000, the Spanish matched Stefan Edgar as the second player with the best percentage of victories (77-23), only surpassed by Rafael Nadal (83-17).

“I am very happy,” Alcaraz said after the victory. “In the end, Rome was a tournament that had not come many times, I simply had a victory before arriving here this year,” the Spanish recalled. “And the truth is that it is very special. The tournament is wonderful, it is very beautiful. The Italians are very passionate, which makes it appreciate to play in front of them. And the truth is that very happy, very happy to give me the opportunity to live a Sunday here in Rome, to play a final,” he continued. “We are going to see how, we will be prepared, but above all we will enjoy this day: it is a very beautiful moment and we have a rest day. So we will try to enjoy it with my people.”

Alcaraz was able to impose Lorenzo Musetti, backed by the local fans, already complicated conditions in the Italic forum, with a lot of wind during the entire match that complicated both players.

“People were with Lorenzo and it has not been easy, but it has been well,” said No. 3 of the PIF ATP Rankings. “The atmosphere was fine. Thanks to fans for being respectful,” the 22 -year -old continued. “It was a very difficult day for the wind and we tried to do our best in these conditions. I have had to play a smarter tennis and wait for my options. I have been mentally strong when things did not go out. I am very happy with everything I have done.”

“Sometimes it is difficult to choose the right decision, but I am trying to improve that part of my game: trying not to think too much and always do the right thing, even if it is not a bright blow or a brilliant decision,” he added. “It also depends on the day. On days like today, with a lot of wind, it is always difficult to hit the ball clearly. Sometimes it is difficult, but I think I have done quite well today.”

That support from the stands to Musetti, however, perhaps it could be a double -edged sword for the Italian, overwhelmed to reach the final in the Italic forum.

“It is obviously difficult when you play at home,” Alcaraz reasoned. “You want to win. It is in your mind all the time wanting to win. You want to get to the final here at home. You want them to be proud of you. Sometimes those thoughts play against you.”

Alcaraz will be measured next Sunday in the final to the winner of the match that will play tonight Jannik Sinner and Tommy Paul.
