Mix a classic style of play with modern power and you will get a tennis star that worship even the best Italian artists. That is the combination that has launched Lorenzo Musetti to the Top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings.

The Italian wears a fabulous setback to one hand, capable of generating winning blows from anywhere, including the background, double corridors or positions without the best support. Your right is even more lethal. Thanks to an extreme grip that produces a powerful lifted effect, the right of Musetti boots at great height and strength to opponents to respond above their comfortable zone.

For a player accustomed to remaining in the top 25, recent performances in the European season of whipped land have allowed him to raise his roof to No. 9 of the PIF ATP Rankings. It is the third youngest Italian to reach the Top 10 – after Jannik Sinner and the old No. 4 Adriano Panatta – and the sixth to achieve it.

If we go back to Montecarlo’s semifinals, emotions overflowed Musetti after securing a place in the first ATP Masters 1000 final of his career. In a moment of pure joy, the Italian hugged his girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri on the margin of the track.

Musetti had just linked Victorias Top 10 to reach the final and something seemed evident: it would be a matter of joining that elite group.

“After Montecarlo, something changed inside me. I felt a positive boost forward,” Musetti said in Madrid. “It’s something I was waiting for for a long time. I feel much safer about what I do inside the track.”

Italians in the Top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings

Musetti has demonstrated his talent on all surfaces. Last year he climbed to the final in The Queen’s Club, an ATP 500 played about grass. Then, he managed to make way to Wimbledon’s semifinals, signing his best result in Grand Slam. In the last 52 weeks, he has managed to sign at least the semifinals in nine tournaments, including the Paris Olympics, where the bronze medal was hung.

The Carrara player will receive a special welcome in the Internalzionali BNL d’Halia, the ATP Masters 1000 tournament held in his native country. With just 30 points to defend in Rome, Musetti has a great opportunity to continue climbing in the high area of the ranking.

Although the spotlights often focus on Sinner and Musetti, just six months younger than the world No. 1, both represent the first line of a great Italian contingent in the ATP Tour.

Nine Italians appear on the top 100 and seven of them are under 25, drawing a golden horizon for male tennis. Last year, Sinner became the first Italian capable of entering Club No. 1 ATP.

Musetti, an old No. 1 Junior already installed in the elite ATP Tour, is demonstrating his value in the biggest stages of sport. All this driven by a setback that would not disregard an art museum.
