Monday’s day at the Mutua Madrid Open has been canceled due to an important blackout that is affecting parts of Spain and Portugal.

Two individual parties and one of ATP Masters 1000 were underway when the blackout occurred at 12:34 pm local time (CEST). The light cut prevented the use of electronic line review systems and also left a spider camera hanging on the track inside the Manolo Santana stadium, where Grigor Dimitrov won Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 5-4 when the game was suspended.

Dimitrov, No. 16 of the PIF ATP Ranking, had a game point to the rest with 5-2, 30/40 in the second set. However, Fearnley kept the serve and recovered the break in the next game to keep their hopes of overcoming in the first meeting Lexus ATP Head2head between them. In addition, Matteo Arnaldi beat Damir Dzumhur 6-3 and 6-4 and reached the fourth round before the game was suspended.

It All Adds Up

Large areas of Spain and Portugal have been affected by the electricity cut, which has left traffic lights out of service. All rail traffic has stopped in Spain and the Lisbon subway and Porto, in Portugal, is closed.
