Carlos Alcaraz was forced to retire from Mutua Madrid Open this week due to an adductor injury. But that is not the only reason why the spotlights have focused on the 21 -year -old Spanish tennis player.

This week Netflix premiered a new docuserie ‘Carlos Alcaraz: in my way’. Atptour.com Review five things we learned from the series.

It All Adds Up

Spanish has no qualms about sharing its ambitions
A theme of the three -episodes series is the persecution of Alcaraz not only to be one of the best players in the world, but to be the best in history.

“I would like to live up to the three greats in terms of titles,” says Alcaraz. “It is part of my struggle to be the best athlete in history.”

The members of his team often point out what is needed to maximize their potential, setting as an example the will of sacrifice of Novak Djokovic.

“Maybe I’m not so strict with myself,” says Alcaraz. “I am taking my time to enjoy more – and maybe more than I should – and, ultimately, that is my way is my method.”

There are difficulties that fans do not see
People around the world see Alcaraz’s stellar moments on the court and all the smiles that outlined. It always seems that Spanish is having a great time.

But Docuserie shows that not everything is easy for this 21 -year -old. The demands of life as a professional tennis player – and the persecution of history – spends an invoice from time to time.

“In 2023 I was already mentally exhausted,” says Alcaraz. “It was 24/7, one hundred percent tennis and in the France Open I lost with Djokovic in the semifinals and I had a friend who was on vacation on those dates and was going to be in Ibiza with some friends … ‘Let’s see if I apply, that tomorrow I am leaving.”

“I knew I first had to talk to [el agente] Albert [Molina]. ‘M* Erd* Albert, I don’t know how to tell you, I mean uncle that I have to go, even if it is two or three days to Ibiza’ “.

The Alcaraz team was not excited about the idea with Queen’s Club and Wimbledon around the corner, but in the series it is clear that there are times when Spanish intuits when you need a break and you take one in an effort to reset.

Federer and Agassi gave wise advice
Several legends appear in the series, such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi. Federer and Agassi gave memorable advice.

Alcaraz remembers a advice that Federer gave him: “I asked him what he was doing to maintain his motivation for so long, year after year, after year, and he told me that he had to make his life more pleasant and that, in some way, he had to find fun in every tournament you attended. Gather with friends, find things to do, go see movies, always find things that give you happiness wherever you go.”

Agassi, another former number 1 of the PIF ATP Rankings, told Alcaraz in a limousine in Las Vegas that he contacted Nadal when the left -hander would retire.

“When he decides, whenever, you should get in touch with him and ask him about the things he would do differently,” Agassi said. “Be intelligent. You always want to learn in 10 minutes what someone took 10 years.”

Family and friends are very important to Carlitos
Alcaraz feels more comfortable with family and friends. Enjoy living at home with his family in Murcia and loves his mother Virginia’s kitchen.

A special scene is during Alcaraz’s 21st birthday celebration with his family and friends. His grandmother sings and Alcaraz is all smiles. His older brother, Álvaro, also keeps him humble.

“He loved being with his childhood friends at the party because it is when he is more relaxed and he can really be himself,” says Álvaro, before the scene goes to a general plane of the group watching Álvaro talking to Carlitos on video. “That you know that no matter how famous you decide that you want to be, you will always be my little brother and I will give you a guantazo in the head if you get like that.”

Ferrero says that the young Alcaraz was like a roller coaster
The ex No. 1 of the world, Juan Carlos Ferrero, brings many ideas throughout the series while pushing Alcaraz to be the best it can be. The 16 -time Tour champion talked about how Alcaraz’s agent Alberto Molina asked him to join the team.

“The idea of working with a young boy, working with him from an early age to help build something from the base with the knowledge I have as a player, as a coach, the idea spoke to me a lot,” Ferrero said.

Alcaraz spent a couple of weeks at the coach’s homonym academy, living there before returning home a weekend. Ferrero is sincere on those days.

“Carlos was a shy boy at the beginning with me. I think he had a lot of respect. It wasn’t very stable,” Ferrero said. “His emotional maturity, man, became very chicken with the victories and then complained if he didn’t go as he wanted, he was a downturn. So, basically, it was a roller coaster.”
