Alcaraz, Nadal, Djokovic and Tsitsipas attend some laureus full of stars

Djokovic announces the world athlete of the year

When Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas are in the same room and is not in a tennis tournament, you know that it is a special occasion.

The ATP Tour stars attended the 2025 edition of the World Sports Laureus Awards on Monday night in Madrid.

Djokovic, five times awarded the world athlete athlete award, announced this year’s winner, Garrocha Mondo Duplantis jumper. Alcaraz was also nominated for the prize with the Swimmer Leon Marchand, the cyclist Tadej Pogacar and the Formula One pilot Max Verstappen.

“When you achieve your childhood dreams, it’s an incredible feeling,” Djokovic said before appointing the winner. “Winning the laureus athlete of the year is the greatest honor with which you can be blessed in sport worldwide, because you are chosen and recognized by the greatest athletes in the history of sport, many of which are present in this room tonight.”

Nadal, who retired last November, and Alcaraz shared a laugh together on the red carpet. Nadal has been twice laureus world athlete of the year and in 2023, Alcaraz received the worldwide emergence of the year.

The stars of the ATP are in the city for the mutual Madrid Open. The main box begins on Tuesday for women and Wednesday for men.
