On May 8, 2019, David Ferrer played the last game of his professional career at Mutua Madrid Open against Alexander Zverev. Just a few months after hanging the racket in the Magic Fund, the old No. 3 of the PIF ATP Rankings assumed the position of director of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

The Spanish has directed the ATP 500 of Barcelona since then for six seasons until Sunday, April 20, where he will end his adventure at the head of a tournament in which he was a finalist four times.

“I am very grateful to the RCTB-1899 for having given me the opportunity. After my stage as a player, I have felt very personal and professional level,” said Ferrer, after the official announcement. “I have known how the tennis industry works, I have known the greatness of the club and the love with which they work every year to carry out the tournament and it has been a very rewarding job.”

“A stage for me is closed and another new one begins,” continued the champion of 27 ATP Tour titles. “I wanted to face new challenges, but it is something that I will always carry in my heart, that I will never forget. I feel very satisfied to have done it and take great friends. I am very happy.”

Ferrer has never hidden his love and admiration for a tournament in which he has lived different stages: as a child, when he visited him every year; As a player, with four disputed finals: and as sports director, facet in which he has worked tirelessly.

Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Tropheo Conde de Godó and the Royal Tennis Club Barcelona-1899 will thank Ferrer for their work at the head of the tournament with a tribute on the Rafa Nadal track before the individual final.
