Carlos Alcaraz is prepared for any challenges.
After winning for the first time a trophy at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters this Sunday, the Spanish explained what he expects from the “difficult months ahead”. In addition, he revealed the most important learning that he has recently extracted that he hopes he helps him face what is coming.
“Many people have very high expectations about me, who has a very good tour of whipped land. He probably wants almost all tournaments to win, so it will be difficult to deal with it, I suppose,” Alcaraz said. “But one thing I have learned the last month is that I have to think about me. I have to think about me, my people, my team, my family, my friends. It doesn’t matter what happens on the track – if I win or if I lose – I have to leave the clue happy. I am proud of everything I have done. So it is something I have learned, I think I did this week and have paid off.”
Relive the highlight of the Montecarlo final:
Before Montecarlo, Alcaraz had lost two followed games, Indian Wells semifinals against Jack Draper and his first meeting in Miami against David Goffin. With a renewed mentality, the new No. 2 of the PIF ATP Rankings was able to return to its best moment in the Principality and its goal remains intact on the pouring on beaten soil.
“In the coming months on the ground on this toured dirt, try to maintain the same way as I have faced this tournament and not think about what people talk about expectations,” Alcaraz said. “I will listen to my close people and my team what I have to tell me, and that is all that matters to me. I will try to face the spotted land.”

The six -time ATP Masters 1000 champion was accompanied this week by Samuel Lopez and according to Alcaraz, the veteran coach has given him key advice throughout the tournament.
“Probably ‘being positive’ is what has repeated me more this week. ‘Keep strong and positive,” Alcaraz acknowledged. “Something that told me and it was probably the key to this great week was that I had to face the difficulties I had. Face, not avoid.”
“I think it changed a lot, because in the games, you have to face them, not be worried, not be afraid. When you realize and accept it, you face them, everything goes the right way,” he added.
Alcaraz joined his name to the list of illustrious Spaniards who have won the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. This group includes eleven times champion Rafael Nadal and his own coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero.
“I want to win more than once. I think eleven is impossible, honestly,” Alcaraz acknowledged, while breaking. “I have spoken with my team about what Rafa did on land. It is one of the most difficult things to do in this sport or one of the greatest things he has done, not in tennis but in sport, win eleven times or fourteen times the same tournament like this or Roland Garros.”
Alcaraz was clear when speaking that Nadal’s records on land such as in Montecarlo or Roland Garros are “impossible to repeat.”
“I got the first [en Montecarlo]. Obviously, I want more. We will see how many I can get, “Alcaraz said.” If I stay with one, I will be more than happy. It doesn’t matter if I get any more title in Montecarlo, but I will try. ”
In the final, Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti. He was the first Italian finalist in the history of this ATP Masters 1000.
“I am not surprised that Lorenzo is quite close to Top 10. He has potential to be there,” Alcaraz said. “He has defeated Top 10 players many times. He has faced the best players in the world. And he has won them, he can play very hard consecutive games.”
“So that’s the Top 10, doing it throughout the year. I think he has weapons. He has the level,” he added about Musetti.
The key message that Alcaraz shared at his press conference after the party was not about the trophy itself, but about the mental section. It will return to No. 2 of the PIF ATP Rankings this Monday and also at the first position of the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. But the 18 times ATP Tour champion focuses on something else.
“Speaking of the things I have learned in recent months … is not thinking about anything but enjoying on the track,” Alcaraz revealed. “Something that I have noticed is that I don’t have to think about anything but enjoy. So I don’t think about the ranking. Just follow, do the things I enjoy, that make me happy. Go out to the track, play good tennis and that’s it.”
