Carlos Alcaraz never must be given by sentenced. Never. Even when your tennis does not flow with the naturalness that usually emanates from its racket. This Friday at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters had to resort to the epic to take a ticket to the semifinals.

The Spanish, who participates for the second time in the tournament (2022, 2025), managed to turn a complicated quarterfinal duel against Arthur Fils 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 23 minutes.

“I just wanted to stay strong and wait for my opportunities,” Alcaraz acknowledged, after his great victory. “I think her level is high right now and puts a lot of pressure on the opponent. Today she could have felt it but at some times she made some mistake and tried to make the most of those points and wait for my opportunities. In the second set I saved those points of break and then turned the only break point I had in that set.”

“In the third, I just tried to play good tennis. When I was Break below I tried to continue and play aggressive, be strong mentally and physically,” the Spaniard added about his analysis of the first meeting that registered the ATP Head2head rivalry between them.

Serial head No. 2 managed to turn not only a set against, but in the decisive managed to lift a dangerous 1-3, linking five consecutive games that gave the pass to semifinals in an ATP Masters 1000 for the tenth time in his career.

However, the 21 -year -old Murcia matched Jannik Sinner as the player born from the year 2000 with more presences among the four best of a tournament in this category.

More SF in an ATP Masters 1000

Player Year of birth SF Masters 1000
Jannik Sinner 2001 10
Carlos Alcaraz 2003 10
Holger Rune 2003 6
Happy Auger-aliassime 2000 3
Sebastian Korda 2000 3

Alcaraz managed to contain an opponent who demanded his most resilient version to be able to move forward in Montecarlo. The 20-year-old Frenchman put the ropes on the NO.

After giving the first set of the tournament against Francisco Cerundolo, Alcaraz had linked four sleeves in a row without giving more than three games in one of them. Before the Argentine, he traced 6-0, 6-1, while in Third Round in front of Daniel Altmaier won 6-3, 6-1.

But Fils snatched a manga again and was close to being the second player who beats the Spanish in Montecarlo (Sebastian Korda defeated him in his debut in 2022). In this way, Alcaraz is presented in the semifinals of an ATP Masters 1000 for the third time on whipped land (Madrid 2022, 2023 and Montecarlo 2025), where he will face his compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
