Carlos Alcaraz wants to write the story at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, one of the most emblematic tournaments of the ATP Tour where his notebook remained blank. The Spanish added on Wednesday the first victory of his career in the clay of the Principality, a key point of the calendar on a surface in which he aspires to write great legends. On the banks of the Mediterranean, an environment that knows from the crib, the Murcia found the smile on time.

No. 3 of the PIF ATP Rankings had to unravel a match full of curves, turning 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 the score to Francisco Cerúndo him to land in the tournament. The strength of the Argentine player, one of the tennis players with the hardest blows of the locker room at the bottom of the track, served to test the hard mentality of the Spanish. After an uncontrolled manga, Alcaraz’s leg speed emerged to remember one thing: the current Roland Garros champion is the man to beat on whipped land, even in stages without previous successes.

“I have not started well. I have made many mistakes and I have allowed him to play on the track, dominating the points,” said Alcaraz, who accumulates a 16-4 in 2025. “I knew I needed something different, play more aggressively and make my own tennis: left, get on the network and be more offensive. The most important change came to the rest, I tried to subtract closer to the line and press it.”

In a painting that appears the main flat of the ATP Tour, Alcaraz will try to continue approaching the definitive rounds accumulating a solid work on the clay. The Spanish will measure in the round of 16 to the German Daniel Altmaier, which on Wednesday defeated the veteran Richard Gasquet 7-5, 6-2, putting an end to the last participation of the French in the tournament.

Alcaraz seeks to extend a career full of successes in ATP Masters 1000. The Spanish, which accumulates five trophies in the golden category of ATP Tour, had only participated on an occasion on the clay of Montecarlo, falling into its first game in the 2022 edition. Now, with the impulse of the initial triumph, Em Murciano aspires to change the script in one of the tournaments with the greatest historical aroma of the calendar.

The Spanish faces in Montecarlo the first 2025 beaten land, a season in which he lifted the Cup in Rotterdam ATP 500, reached the quarterfinals in the Australian Open and climbed to the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 of Indian Wells as more prominent results. Alcaraz lands in the Principality after giving in the first round of Miami, a premature defeat that has given additional time to assume the surface change.

The 2022 finalist, who in Primera Ronda had surprised Ben Shelton despite going set and break down, will measure the British Jack Draper on Thursday for a place in the quarterfinals of this event for the third time in his career. Check all the results of the day.
