Novak Djokovic arrives at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters in search of his first title since the Olympic gold medal was hung last July at the Olympic Games of Paris 2024. At 37, the Serbian has won everything in this sport.

The Serbian is already prepared to face a new toured on beaten land, after falling into the Miami final. Of course, before starting his way in Montecarlo, he talked about his degree of motivation in recent times.

“There is no doubt that it has become more difficult throughout my career, but the performance in Miami, when I am playing that way, gives me more inspiration to move forward,” Djokovic said. “I feel very good on the track, when I hit the ball and win games. Obviously when you start losing soon you have more internal questions and voices, which make you doubt if you should continue.”

“I am happy to have found in Miami that joy on the track and level performances, so we will see if I can transfer it to the beaten earth. It is a different surface and I do not have much time to adapt to this tournament, so the expectations are not very high,” he added.

Djokovic showed a great level of form in Miami, before falling in the final against Jakub Mensik, which premiered his record. The defeat prevented the Serbian from lifting title No. 100 of his career, but is still delighted with his performance in Florida.

“We talked about Miami. The feeling of losing the final was a bit bad, but I was at a high level. I got well, I played well. I had a little bad luck in the final,” two Tie-Breaks-but he was better. That’s all, “said Djokovic. “It gives me a lot of encouragement and positivism reflect on my game and how I was in Miami.”

It All Adds Up

Andy Murray is part of the Djokovic team since the beginning of the season. The Scottish accompanied the old No. 1 of the world both in the Australian Open and in Indian Wells and Miami.

However. Murray is not this week in Monaco, but will return at the end of this month in Madrid.

“It was not part of the agreement to work with Andy this week,” Djokovic revealed. “I thought about who would accompany me, in addition to my physical trainer and my physiotherapist, and it was my brother Marko who joined, so he helps me to another emotional level.”

The third favorite in Montecarlo and twice Djokovic champion could meet Stan Wawrinka in his first game. The Serbian, which leads the Lexus ATP Head2head before the Swiss by 21-6, got rid of praise towards his possible rival.

“People talk about my age, but what about him? He is still strong,” Djokovic recalled. “I love Stan, he is a great guy and a champion who has been undervalued with everything he has achieved: three Grand Slam, Davis Cup, Olympic gold … a legend of sport and a true inspiration.”
