Alex de Miñaur has raised flight last year. The last season reached the quarterfinals in three of the four majors, it slipped into the top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings and was classified for the first time for the Nitto ATP Finals.
This week, the 25 -year -old tennis player arrives at ABN Amro Open of Rotterdam after reaching the quarterfinals at home for the first time, at the Australian Open.
“I feel that I have taken great steps in the right direction in the last year,” from Miñaur to Atptour.com at Rotterdam. “I have improved as a player. I think that showing the consistency of reaching the rooms in the last four Slams is something that I do not take lightly, much less. And I think it is a great platform to build. I want more.”
“Last year many things happened, I was injured much of the year and I still got great results, but this year’s goal is to stay healthy and follow the same trajectory. And I hope that takes me to larger and better things, and I don’t think my roof has yet touched.
Miñaur’s fever broke out last month at the Australian Open. The face of No. 1 Australian appeared in the advertising posters of the city, and channel 9, the host chain, spoke regularly of the 25 -year -old tennis -ranging path to the final. In addition, De Miñaur played his five games at Rod Laver Arena, the main track of the tournament. It was the first time this happened in a major.
De Miñaur loves to be the center of attention, but recognizes the mental pressure that this supposes.
“The change is curious. Two years ago, it was No. 11 or 12. Then I uploaded one or two positions and the difference is enormous. As for the eyes, the media, the pressures, the expectations, all that” , explained De Mi´aur. “But, without a doubt, it has changed over the years and, of course, I feel the love of Australia.”
“After all, the spotlights are there, right? It is the beginning of the season, it is the Slam at home. And that entails many things. As a player, there is nothing that I feel like playing well in Australia, And play well in front of my audience, my family and my friends. “
“It has many good things. There are many spectators. It is exciting to play at Rod Laver Arena against crowds that support you. But, of course, it also means that many people expect you to win.”
After a month in the candlestick, De Miñaur will now prepare for quieter times with the tour of Australia for the rest of the season. The world No. 8 will spend a long period from his family and friends, but he has close to his fiancee and star of the WTA Katie Boulter. Miñaur proposed Boulter marriage during the preseason and revealed that the British helps her feel comfortable when she is traveling.
“Definitely, the weeks that I am with Katie help me. It’s much easier to be so far from home. They are long seasons,” De Miñaur said. “That is, a long time to tour. For me, it is very important to try to do things where we are. It is important have”.
“Whether friends, whether players, your own team. For me that is the best way to make time spend faster on these long tours. Because after all is the tennis aspect, which will always be intense And stressful and for which a lot of concentration is needed, but as soon as you salize the track, you try to immerse yourself in the different cities, the different activities, restaurants, coffees, and simply lead a life as normal as you can. “
Miñaur is the third standard head in Rotterdam this week. Player No. 8 at the PIF ATP Ranking advanced to the game for the title at the ATP 500 Hard Road event last season and begins this year’s campaign against the 2017 finalist David Goffin, before whom of Miñaur leads for 5-0 in the Lexus ATP Head2head series.
