Rafael Nadal set himself a goal: to reach the Davis Cup Finals at the best possible level. As the world of sport prepares to say goodbye to one of the great legends in history in the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next week, the protagonist is fine-tuning the final details on the court.
To this end, the 22-time Grand Slam champion summoned his compatriot and teammate Roberto Bautista Agut to his training base camp at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar to begin his preparation, with two weeks left before the event.
Nadal and Bautista have shared great memories in this competition. In 2019, in an emotional week in which the man from Castellón, after suffering the loss of his father, returned with his teammates to raise the Salad Bowl.
Now, the 38-year-old manacor native plans to return to the slopes for the first time since he participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last July to say goodbye. He will do so just a month after announcing on October 10 that he would end his career as a professional at the end of the season.
Both Nadal and Bautista will be part of the national team that will try to win a new title for Spain from November 19 to 24, along with Carlos Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers. In addition, Pedro Martínez was also summoned by captain David Ferrer.
The Spaniards will play their quarterfinal tie on Tuesday, November 19 against the Netherlands, a day in which Nadal will try not to be the last of his professional career.
