Jannik Sinner has confirmed his absence from the Rolex Paris Masters due to a virus. The Italian announced the news during a press conference this Tuesday.
“It’s a very complicated decision,” Sinner said. “I’m not going to compete in Paris. We had come well in advance to prepare in the best way. After the first training session, I didn’t feel too well. I spoke to the doctor on Sunday. It’s a virus, and you need three or four days to feel better.
“Today I feel a little better, but my body is not prepared to compete. I still feel quite weak. There is no point in going out on the court and trying to compete for this tournament. I feel disappointed because it is an event where I wanted to see what level I am at. “It was one of my main goals for this week. Unfortunately I won’t be able to do it.”
Sinner is 65-6 this season and has secured the ATP Year End-No. 1 presented by PIF for the first time in his career. The Italian, who leads the circuit with seven trophies in 2024, was facing what was going to be his fourth participation in Paris-Bercy.
The No. 1 of the PIF ATP Rankings will head to Turin to lead the lineup for the Nitto ATP Finals, scheduled to take place from November 10 to 17.
“The most important thing is to recover and get back to 100% physically,” Sinner said. “I hope to feel better in the next three or four days. Then I will start training again with the main objective of being in Turin.”
The Frenchman Arthur Cazaux has joined the team as a lucky loser and will face Ben Shelton or Corentin Moutet in the second round.
