Tommy Paul is shining again and showing his entire tennis repertoire on the ATP Tour. Can he now add a new title in Stockholm to boost his aspirations of reaching the Nitto ATP Finals?

For now, the American booked his place in the BNP Paribas Nordic Open title match on Saturday with a solid 6-3, 6-2 victory against Stan Wawrinka to return to the final in an event in which he lifted the trophy in 2021.

Paul remained constant in the backcourt exchanges against Wawrinka who showed in the week that he still has a lot to give, and the American made the difference in the key moments to sign the victory in 81 minutes in the ATP 250 indoor track hard.

“Stan is an incredible player. He’s had an incredible week. It’s been a lot of fun watching him and it was a lot of fun playing against him today,” said Paul, who now leads Wawrinka 2-1 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series. “It took me a lot to beat him, so I’m very happy with the battle we fought today.”

After reaching his fourth final on the Tour in 2024, Paul is in 11th place in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin and will fight even with Grigor Dimitrov, his rival in this Sunday’s final after the Bulgarian defeated Tallon Griekspoor in the second semi-final in Stockholm 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Paul now has a very promising 9-1 record in Stockholm, where he won his first ATP crown three years ago. The 27-year-old will play for his third trophy of the year on Sunday in Sweden, following his victories in Dallas and at the Queen’s Club.
