From the moment he lifted his first Grand Slam crown last January at the Australian Open, no one has been able to dispute Jannik Sinner’s control of first place in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin 2024.

The Italian, who extended the best record of titles won by a single player this year to seven titles this Sunday at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, extended his lead in the Live Race over second-placed Carlos Alcaraz to escape with a difference of 3,620 points. At 23 years old, Sinner has a total of 10,330 points that will ensure he ends the year with the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF award. Or what is the same, he will finish 2024 as No. 1 in the world.

Alcaraz, with 6,710 points, as well as third-placed Alexander Zverev, with 6,215 points, together with Sinner, have sealed their ticket to play in the season-ending tournament at the Nitto ATP Finals. The three are the only ones who have surpassed the 5,000 point barrier. Daniil Medvedev is in fourth place with 4,820 points, but only a difference of 1,455 points separates US Open finalist Taylor Fritz, who is fifth with No. 12 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Medvedev, Fritz and the rest of the contenders, including seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, hope to materialize their chances of being in Turin on the indoor hard court tour that takes place between October and November. Djokovic has his sights set, especially, on the 1,000 points at stake for the champion of the Rolex Paris Masters, where he has won seven times.

But how has Sinner managed to establish itself in such a dominant position in the Live Race? The Italian has had a dream 2024, with a record of 65-5 and seven titles. SINNER STORY IN 2024: IN THE HEAD
After winning his first Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open, he continued his good form throughout the 2024 season. The Italian, who won his first 16 matches of the year, has had no problems assuming the role of ‘man to beat’ on the circuit.

1) The footprint in Melbourne: The excellent second half of the 2023 season showed that he was ready to take a step forward on the big stages, just as he did in January at the Australian Open. The Italian defeated ten-time champion Novak Djokovic with authority in the semifinals, before recovering from two sets down in the final against Daniil Medvedev.

2) Jannik’s glory continued in New York: After the disappointment of missing the Olympics due to injury, Sinner returned to the American hard court in a big way. He put the cherry on top of his great year at the Grand Slam by lifting the title at the US Open, where he defeated local favorite Taylor Fritz in the final. Sinner was the first man in 47 years to win his first two Grand Slams in the same season.

3) Almost unbeatable on hard court: Sinner has posted a 45-3 record on hard courts this year, which allows him to lead the statistic. In addition to lifting the two Grand Slams on the surface, the Italian has also won three ATP Masters 1000 titles in Miami (March), where he gave up only one set in six matches, in Cincinnati (August) and in Shanghai (October).

A MILESTONE
If 2024 is going to go down in history as ‘the year of Sinner’, June 10 is possibly the day that will be most associated with the Italian. After reaching the semifinals at Roland Garros the week before, Sinner woke up that Monday as the first Italian to reach No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings. Sinner has remained in that position since then and at 23 years old he has already ensured that he ends the year on a high with the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF.
