When he began his journey on the ATP Tour this season, Alejandro Tabilo had compiled 25 victories throughout his entire career until then. Barely ten months later, the Chilean has not only surpassed that figure only in 2024, but is one game won away from reaching 30.

The No. 23 in the PIF ATP Rankings began his journey at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, scoring an important victory in the second round against Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes. It is the first he has achieved in the Asian ATP Masters 1000 in his first participation.

Tabilo, who has played in the eight Masters 1000 that have been held this year, already has ten matches won in tournaments in this category during this season (10-7), with his most notable result being the one he achieved in the Rome semi-finals (l. with Alexander Zverev).

The Chilean has celebrated this year his highest ranking in the PIF ATP Rankings (No. 19), his first two ATP Tour titles (Auckland, Mallorca), one more final (Santiago) and set his best record of victories in the same year (29-23).

But this Friday he managed to end a streak of eight consecutive losses. Tabilo had not won a match on the ATP Tour since last August in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Canada.

The No. 19 seed in Shanghai relied on three aces, 80% of points won with the first serve and four breaks converted into 12 opportunities to advance to the third round.

Now the No. 11 favorite Tommy Paul awaits him, who authoritatively surpassed his debut against the Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-3 in one hour. It will be the second duel that the Lexus ATP Head2Head registers against the American, who won his only previous match at Queen’s 2024.

Also Chilean and seeded No. 25 Nicolás Jarry could not accompany his compatriot in the third round in Shanghai. And he was surprised by local guest Wu Yibing 6-2, 6-1 in 61 minutes.

The Chinese player, who is ranked No. 560 in the world, has added his first two victories of the year at the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai – both in two sets – against Nagal and Jarry. The third round will await the winner of the duel between the No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz and his compatriot Shang Juncheng.

Alejandro Tabilo, who just a year ago was No. 120 in the world, has consolidated himself in October as the highest-ranked Chilean in the PIF ATP Rankings at No. 23.
