Alejandro Davidovich smiles and knows that starting a week with a victory is good news for him. After a few weeks of absence from the Tour, the Spaniard defeated Frenchman Arthur Cazaux 6-2 and 7-6 (4) in one hour and 52 minutes and qualified for the second round of the Atlanta Open.

Davidovich once again showed his potential in the post, imposing a high pace of play. The Malaga native led the scoreboard from the start and was the one who set the pace of the match, despite a disputed second set that was only decided in the tie-break.

The Spaniard hit 30 winners, including 11 aces, and won 83% of first-serve points throughout the match, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

“I improved with each game I played on the court… I didn’t start off serving well but I returned better and I focused on not making mistakes in every point,” Foki said. “Now I have to think about my body and feeling good… It’s very humid here but I’ll get used to it,” he said.

Now, for a place in the quarter-finals, the Spaniard will face the winner of the match between Reilly Opelka and Aleksandar Kovacevic.
