Denis Shapovalov is still immersed in recovering his best level and this Monday in his debut at Wimbledon he gave a good example that he is getting closer to achieving it.

The Canadian opened his participation in the grass-court Grand Slam against the Chilean No. 20 in the PIF ATP Rankings with a meritorious victory by 6-1, 7-5, 6-4, in one hour and 53 minutes.

The former Top 10 player recorded his 10th career win at the All England Club, a venue where he reached the semi-finals (l. to Novak Djokovic) in 2021 and advanced to the fourth round last season.

Shapovalov, 25, had an impeccable performance with 9 aces, 83% of points won on his first serve and a remarkable 82% every time he decided to come to the net to close out the point. In addition, he converted 4 of the 10 opportunities he had on return.

After defeating the 19th seed, the Canadian now awaits the winner of the clash between local wild card Arthur Fery and Germany’s Daniel Altmaier.

The 19-year-old #NextGenATP player arrived in London after reaching the quarter-finals last week at the ATP 250 in Eastbourne, where he lost to champion Taylor Fritz.

Shang will next face No. 10 seed Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, after he won his first Wimbledon match with a three-set victory over Serbian Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 45 minutes.
