Top seed Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz headline Monday’s Wimbledon schedule, with Daniil Medvedev also in action on Day 1 of the main draw. Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic begins his campaign on Tuesday.
Alcaraz will have the honor of fulfilling the Wimbledon tradition of kicking off the Grand Slam on grass on the center court. The upper part of the draw begins on Monday, with the third seed Alcaraz against the Estonian from the qualifier Mark Lajal.
Sinner, who is the top seed at a Grand Slam for the first time, will open against German Yannick Hanfmann. The Italian is chasing his second major crown after winning the Australian Open in January.
Other matches on Monday feature PIF ATP Rankings No. 5 Daniil Medvedev taking on American Aleksandar Kovacevic, eighth seed Casper Ruud taking on Alex Bolt and No. 10 seed Grigor Dimitrov making his debut against Dusan Lajovic.
Djokovic will begin his 19th appearance at the All England Club on Tuesday. The Serbian starts against Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva. Djokovic will try to equal Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon crowns and become the oldest champion (37).
Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz, Alex de Miñaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas will also play on Tuesday, as well as two-time champion Andy Murray who will put an end to the Grand Slam at home.
